Current Fundraising Initiative
Expansion of Seydel Hall to house Vocational Program.

The vocational program will
be under the direction of
Mars Lawley who has directed vocational programs for many years.

The goal of Every Child Counts is independence and productivity in our community. For some students this is a real possibility independently but for others assistance will always be required. The time has come for ECC to address the needs of both of these groups of students as they age. Many students are now engaged in training in jobs in the community and will hopefully be prepared to successfully continue as they graduate. Others need to be involved in the type of micro business that is now being developed at ECC on a longer time frame.

The business that began on a small scale last year was a utensil assembly production line where the following skills were emphasized;

- Job preparedness
- Staying on task
- Punctuality
- Completing steps of a task
- Receiving directions
- Following directions
- Practicing hygiene

For students with developmental disabilities "on the job" training is the most effective learning. ECC is committed to providing these young people with the education and training they need to become realized as persons and assets to their community.

To realise this dream we require additional workshop space and have plans to extend an existing building, Seydel Hall. We have volunteers in place to handle the construction but need to raise approximately $30,000 for the building materials and purchase of necessary equipment.

If you would like to make a donation to the construction of our vocational workshop please send your cheque to:

Every Child Counts,
Vocational Program,

Rollins Abaco - Bridging the Digital Divide

This blog is produced by a Rollins College Conference Course. The blog discusses topics that are occurring during our visit to Abaco, Bahamas on our service learning project. As part of our experience we will be teaching in a school for disabled children called Every Child Counts. The students have learned throughout the semester how technology effects education and will be able to take what they have learned and apply it at Every Child Counts.
